LUFC One goal away from best start in 35 years

LUFC One goal away from best start in 35 years

Leeds United are just one game and one goal away from scoring in their first fourteen games of the season, something they haven`t done in 35 years.

Luciano Becchio`s goal from the penalty spot against Barnsley On Saturday continued Leeds record of scoring in every game this season.

The Argentinian strikers form has been one of the main reasons why the club have started the season so well in front of goal, with the goal against Barnsley his ninth of this season.

The last time Leeds enjoyed a better start was in the 1977/78 season, when the side went fourteen games before failing to score. In that season Ray Hankin was the main target man; netting ten times in eight games as he helped Leeds score in their first fourteen games before a 0-0 draw at Leicester City brought that run to an end.

The current side have a long way to go to beat the club record. The Leeds side, playing in the Second Division in the 1927/28 season scored in their first twenty-eight games of the season before failing to score in a 1-0 defeat at eventual Division Two champions Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Leeds scored 98 goals that season with Tom Jennings, John White, Russell Wainscoat and Charlie Keetley scoring 72 goals between them.

1943/44 saw the Leeds side that played in the War time league score in all eighteen of their fixtures but only manage to win eight of them.

The current squad will be looking to make it fourteen scoring games in a row when they travel to Sheffield Wednesday on their return from the international break on Friday October 19th.
