LUFC Bolton v Leeds Over the years

LUFC Bolton v Leeds Over the years

Leeds United travel to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night and Vital Leeds looks back at the previous meetings between the two teams.

Bolton and Leeds have met on 29 occasions at Bolton, with the home side winning 16, Leeds 9 and 4 have been drawn.

Whilst Leeds had a dreadful record at Burnden Park, they have a much better record since Bolton moved to the Reebok Stadium in 1997.

Leeds have won three of the four games played at the Reebok, with their only defeat coming in the 2003/04 season. The defeat that day relegated Leeds United from the Premier League. Mark Viduka scored first for Leeds but the big Australian was sent off in the first half as Leeds went down 4-1.

The first ever meeting between the two came during the 1922/23 season when Bolton won a FA Cup tie 3-1 on their way to winning the trophy.

Bolton won the first eleven meetings between the two and it was fifteen visits to Burnden Park before Leeds enjoyed their first win, when they won 3-2 in a FA Cup tie in the 1949/50 season.

Leeds record in recent meetings has been much better and they have lost just one of the last eight meetings.
