LUFC Warnock - I knew Tonge would score

Leeds United manager Neil Warnock says he knew Michael Tonge would score before the ball left his foot in the win at Bristol City.

Tonge scored his first goal for the club since arriving from Stoke City on loan earlier this month with a sweet strike from the edge of the area and Warnock says it is something he was used to when they were together at Sheffield United. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "I knew he would score before he even kicked it. When he came inside on his right, I just had that feeling about it.

"It was the sort of thing I had with him at Sheffield United; he always had that in his locker. He has been a little bit lacking in confidence having not played much but he is enjoying himself."

Tonge is at Leeds until December on a 93 day loan deal after struggling to break into the Stoke side since his big money move from Sheffield United in 2008.

He has made just 18 appearances in his four seasons at the Britannia Stadium and he has had loan spells with Preston North End - twice, Derby County and Barnsley.

Tonge started his career with Warnock at Sheffield United, making over 300 appearances for the club and it looks like Warnock is once again getting the best out of the player.

Having had little match action before his move to Leeds, Tonge is looking stronger with each game and he could prove a key signing over the next few months.
