LUFC Former striker joins Terriers

Any lingering hopes Leeds United had of bringing back former striker Jermaine Beckford are over after he joined neighbours Huddersfield Town on loan.

Leeds have been linked with their former striker since the summer, after his future at parent club Leicester City was left unclear after falling out with manager Nigel Pearson towards the end of last season.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock has been desperate to add to his attacking options since the summer and the long-term injury to last season`s top goalscorer Ross McCormack recently has made it an even bigger priority.

Beckford was offered to Leeds twice during the second half of last season according to chairman Ken Bates but both were declined.

With the takeover finally looking like it could be done in the near future, many were hoping that Beckford could finally come back to Leeds.

Beckford netted 85 times in 152 appearances in three seasons at Elland Road including the never to be forgotten winner at Old Trafford and the crucial goal that won Leeds promotion from League One in 2010.

The 28-year-old left for Everton that summer on a free transfer after running down his contract and he netted ten goals in his first season in the Premier League, with most of his appearances coming from the substitute`s bench.

Despite a decent first season with Everton, he was sold to Leicester for a fee in the region of 3,000,000 last summer.

He netted 15 times for Leicester last season but he fell out with their boss Nigel Pearson towards the end of last season.

He looked set to join Huddersfield on transfer deadline day in August before the deal fell through in the final hours of the transfer window.

Beckford has joined up with his former Leeds manager Simon Grayson on a 93-day loan period and he could line up against Leeds when the two clubs meet at Huddersfield on November 30th.
