LUFC Warnock full of praise for youngsters

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock was full of praise for youngsters Sam Byram and Dominic Poleon after the win over Nottingham Forest.

The pair, products of the Leeds United academy, both signed their first professional contracts in the summer and have grasped their chance in the first team this season.

The duo impressed during pre-season and Byram has been a regular in the first team since the season started. Poleon was making his first start against Forest, he took the opportunity by scoring his first senior goal for the club, and Warnock was full of praise for the duo. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "I just ask him (Byram) to play with a smile on his face but you don`t have to ask him to do that as he smiles all the time.

"I think you can see the way he is playing that he is enjoying himself. When you are enjoying it, you do that little bit more and I was pleased. He is a level-headed lad as well.

"Young Dominic did well and he took his goal well. He still has a lot to learn but it was nice to see the young lad get on the scoresheet."

Byram has shown his versatility since coming into the side, playing at both right back and on the right wing and he also looks more than capable of playing in the middle of the park.

He has been an ever-present so far this season, starting seven and coming off the bench twice in Leeds nine games and his early season form saw him rewarded with a new three-year deal by the club. He has also netted his first goal in Leeds colours with a superb individual goal against Oxford United in the League Cup.

Saturday was the sixth appearance of the season for Poleon. He has been a late substitute in games before Saturday but after an impressive cameo appearance against Hull in midweek, Warnock gave him the chance to prove himself from the start.

Poleon took the opportunity by scoring Leeds second goal when he beat Lee Camp from the edge of the area and with last season`s leading goalscorer Ross McCormack ruled out for up to three months, Poleon could be a welcome relief for Warnock in attack.
