LUFC McCormack injury worse than first thought
After revealing earlier this week that striker Ross McCormack could be out for six to eight weeks, Leeds boss Neil Warnock now says it could be as long as twelve.
McCormack damaged his ankle in the game at Cardiff City on Saturday and scans earlier this week revealed a small bit of bone had been chipped away but the surgeon dealing with McCormack, now says it is worse than first thought.
The striker is to undergo an operation on Friday and Warnock says they will not know the full extent of the injury until after the surgery. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "The surgeon had another look at the scan and he is concerned. We thought it was just a fragment of bone but it could be a bit bigger than we first thought.
"The prognosis is that it could be an extra four weeks but we will not know until after he operates, but it doesn`t look good at the moment.
"It looks like it could be Christmas if it is the worst case scenario."
The news is a huge blow to both Warnock and McCormack.
Warnock is already working around a small budget with limited players at his disposal and McCormack joins Paul Green and David Norris on the long-term injury list.
McCormack, who finished last season as the leading goalscorer at the club had just regained his place in the Scotland squad after over a year out.
He scored on his return in the 3-1 win over Australia in August and he was part of the squad that started their World Cup qualifying campaign this month.
