LUFC Becchio fails to make shortlist

Despite scoring four goals in the first month of the season, Leeds United striker Luciano Becchio has failed to make the shortlist for the championship player of the month.

Becchio scored in three of the four games he played during August including the only goal of the game in the opening day win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and both goals in the 2-1 win at Peterborough United a week later.

The shortlist of three comprises of Blackpool midfielder Tom Ince, who has made a great start to the season, Bristol City striker Martyn Woolford, who netted three times and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Jermaine Johnson who has also netted three times.

The three shortlisted for the manager of the month are those that filled the top three places in the division at the end of the month.

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway saw his side make the perfect start with maximum points from their opening three games, including a 6-1 win over Ipswich Town.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones saw his side quickly settle into life in the championship following their promotion from League One last season. The Owls claimed seven points from a possible nine in their opening three games.

Under pressure, Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean saw his side also take seven points from a possible nine in the opening month.

Championship Player of the Month - Shortlist
Tom Ince - Blackpool
Martyn Woolford - Bristol City
Jermaine Johnson - Sheffield Wednesday

Championship Manager of the Month - Shortlist
Ian Holloway - Blackpool
Steve Kean - Blackburn Rovers
Dave Jones - Sheffield Wednesday

The winners will be announced on Sky Sports News on Friday morning around 10am.
