LUFC Jones - Squad nowhere near strong enough

Leeds United assistant manager Mick Jones says the squad is nowhere near strong enough for the championship.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock has brought in eleven players during the summer but Jones says there is nowhere near enough depth to the squad when it is hit with injuries and suspensions. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Jones said, "You don`t have to be a genius to work out that we have a very small squad.

"You look at our bench and it is nowhere near strong enough for the championship. We will get injuries and we will get problems with suspensions and all those sort of things. When they kick in you need to be strong enough and at the moment we are not."

Warnock is already facing up to a month without midfielders David Norris and Paul Green.

Norris is ruled out for around a month with a thigh injury and he joins Green on the sidelines. Green hasn`t played since the opening day of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers, after suffering a knee injury that has ruled him out for up to eight weeks.

Transfer listed Ramon Nunez looks like missing most of the season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in the development squad win over Wigan Athletic on Monday and Michael Brown is struggling with a hamstring injury.

Leigh Bromby is not expected to return this season after suffering a patella injury at Cardiff last season and striker Davide Somma is not expected to return before the end of October has he continues his recovery from a cruciate knee ligament injury that ruled him out for the whole of last season.

With the transfer window now closed until January, Warnock will be looking to the loan market, which reopens this week.
