Leeds United summer signing Luke Varney says he is getting used to his new position in the side and beginning to find his feet.
Varney, a summer signing from Portsmouth is playing in a new role in a four-man midfield having played most of his career either as a striker or just off the front two.
The 29 year old spoke on Yorkshire Radio earlier this week and reflected on his start to the season, having started Leeds first four games of the season before being rested for the midweek League Cup win over Oxford United. "I have done ok. I must admit that in a couple of the games I haven`t done as much in the final third as I have in the past.
"I am definitely starting to find my feet in my position now. I am playing slightly deeper than I have before in a four-man midfield, where a 4-3-3 used to suit me much better but if we are winning, I am not too bothered about my personal performance. I will give 100% and I think that is all the gaffer is asking."
Varney scored on his Leeds debut in the 4-0 win over Shrewsbury Town in the League cup.
He has being played on the left side of midfield and he set up Luciano Becchio for the opening goal of the game against Peterborough last weekend.
He says he is just as happy setting up goals as well as scoring them. "The goals will come, there is much more to my game than just goals. I am quite happy to lay them on and just work hard for the team,"added Varney.
Varney will be hoping to be recalled to the starting line-up against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
