LUFC Warnock - Somma out until the end of October
Leeds United boss Neil Warnock says he doesn`t expect to see Davide Somma back before the end of October.
Somma has been out since suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in pre-season ahead of the last campaign.
The South African international looked to be on his way back last season before suffering a setback in March that ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
Warnock is looking forward to welcoming Somma back to the squad, feeling he will be like a new signing. Speaking on LUTV, Warnock said, "I could do with a fit Davide Somma. I am not optimistic we will see him back before the end of October. He is now running and I hope it is sooner rather than later.
"Even if he was just on the bench, he will give us something we don`t have. If things are tight financially, to have Davide Somma would be like having a new signing."
The striker signed for Leeds in 2009 after a successful trial with the club.
The then Leeds boss Simon Grayson sent Somma out on loan to gain experience and after a short spell with Chesterfield prior to Christmas where he made three appearances he had an highly successful spell with Lincoln City.
Somma scored nine times in fourteen appearances, helping Lincoln avoid relegation from the Football League.
The 27 year old carried that form into his first full season at Leeds. He scored twice on his championship debut as a second half substitute against Millwall and he scored again in his first start in Leeds next game against Leicester City.
Despite mainly coming off the bench during the season, he netted twelve times in thirty-three appearances, with just thirteen of those being starts.
His last appearance for Leeds was as a substitute in their last game of the 2010/11 season against Queens Park Rangers.
