LUFC Peterborough v Leeds Head to Head

LUFC Peterborough v Leeds Head to Head

Leeds United travel to London Road to face Peterborough United on Saturday for only the sixth time in the two clubs history.

In the previous five encounters, Peterborough have won two and Leeds three.

Three of the meetings at London Road have come in cup competitions. The first ever meeting between the two came during the 1973/74 season when Leeds won a FA Cup fourth round clash 4-1 thanks to goals from Joe Jordan (2), Terry Yorath and Peter Lorimer, played in front of 28,000 fans at London Road.

The next meeting came during the 1985/86 season, once again in the FA Cup. This time Fourth Division Peterborough produced a giant killing act with a 1-0 win in the third round.

Three seasons later the met in a two-legged League Cup second round tie.

Leeds won the first leg 2-1 at Peterborough thanks to goals from Ian Baird and the clubs current first team coach Glynn Snodin. The game was to mark the last in charge for Leeds legend Billy Bremner who was sacked the day after the game. For the record, Leeds won the second leg 3-1 to go through 5-2 on aggregate.

The first league meeting between the two sides came during the 2008/09 League One season. Goals from George Boyd and Craig Mackail-Smith condemned Leeds to only their second defeat of the season in nine games.

The two clubs met in an enthralling championship clash last October. Andy Keogh fired Leeds into an early lead before Gabriel Zakuani equalised for the home side.

Peterborough were reduced to ten men in the first half when Lee Tomlin was shown a straight red card.

Leeds went ahead for a second time early in the second half when Adam Clayton scored from the edge of the area.

Peterborough drew level for a second time when a defensive mix up allowed Mark Little to nip in and score with just two minutes remaining.

Leeds claimed all three points with a goal deep into stoppage time. Luciano Becchio made sure a Darren O`Dea effort had cleared the line but the goal had already been given to secure a 3-2 win for Leeds.
