LUFC White -There is a desire not to be beaten

Leeds United defender Aidy White says the clubs players have a desire not to be beaten after starting the season with a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.

Leeds won 1-0 against Wolves, who were relegated from the Premier League and White feels the players desire not to lose games will make them hard to beat. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, White said, "There is a desire not to be beaten. You look around the team and the player next to you; we all have the same thing in mind in that we do not want to be beaten. "

Leeds have now kept back to back clean sheets, having beaten Shrewsbury 4-0 in their League Cup tie the previous week.

The clean sheet by Leeds at the weekend was the first at Elland Road in the championship since beating Millwall 2-0 at home last December, a run of 13 games. It was also the first time they had kept back-to-back clean sheets since the end of the 2010/11 season in all competitions.

Warnock insisted following his arrival last February that he was going to look to build from the back and sort out a defence that finished with the worst defensive record at home in the championship last season having conceded 41 goals.

White says the side are going to be much harder to beat this season, with keeping clean sheets the main aim. "We are going to be strong and we are going to be hard to beat. The main thing is being hard to beat. We will pick up points if we do not concede goals. I know it is stating the obvious but it is harder to do it than it is to say it," added White.

Warnock`s first signing of the summer was central defender Jason Pearce from Portsmouth, who had won the clubs player of the season last season.

He has been joined by goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, who Warnock says he would not swap for any other goalkeeper in the country having had him at Bury, Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers during his career.

Experienced full back Adam Drury has arrived from Norwich City as well as fellow full back and new club captain Lee Peltier.

Warnock has been given a huge tonic with the emergence of 18-year-old Sam Byram who signed his first professional contract with the club in the summer having come through the clubs academy. After impressing in pre-season, Byram has looked accomplished in both games against Shrewsbury and Wolves.

The defence are being protected by the hard working David Norris and Rodolph Austin in the centre of midfield. Both wide players, Paul Green, prior to his injury and Luke Varney did their bit in helping out the full backs at the weekend.

Leeds have conceded 70 and 68 goals respectively since returning to the championship in the past two seasons.

When Warnock masterminded Queens Park Rangers championship success in 2011 the West London club conceded just 32 goals all season.

New Leeds goalkeeper Paddy Kenny kept 25 clean sheets in a total of 26 by Rangers in the season and Warnock will be hoping for similar this season to give Leeds a realistic chance of promotion.
