Leeds start the season with a 2-0 home win over Southampton thanks to goals from Lee Bowyer and Alan Smith.

Leeds win their opening home League One game of the season with a 4-1 win over Southend. Alan Thompson gave Leeds the lead but it looked like they were going to be thwarted when Southend equalised. Three goals in the closing minutes by Tore Andre Flo, Rui Marques and a first for the club by Jermaine Beckford make it two wins from two.

Leeds chairman Ken Bates has announced the club will appeal to the Football Association against the Football League's decision to impose a 15-point deduction.

In an open letter published on the club's official website, Bates also said that he is going nowhere and neither are boss Dennis Wise or assistant Gus Poyet, and that the 'mindless minority who do their silly chants had better get used to it'.

Bates said: 'The 15 point 'sanction' is a scandal and a travesty of justice. We are appealing that decision to the Football Association but meanwhile will get on with the job of strengthening the team and getting back firstly to the Championship and then the Premiership.'

The chairman also outlined the current situation, what has been happening and what he hopes to happen in the future. Using Elland Road for non-footballing purposes and investing in the scouting and youth systems are set to be a key part of the club's future.

Leeds leave it late before snatching a dramatic win at Walsall. Goals from Bradley Johnson and Jermaine Beckford in the final few minutes secure a 2-1 win
