LUFC Bromby expected to be out for the season

Leeds United defender Leigh Bromby says he does not expect to return to first team football this season.

Bromby is recovering after suffering a patella tendon injury in the penultimate game of the season at Cardiff City that required surgery.

The 32 year old says the surgeon has told him to expect to be out for between 12-18 months, ruling him out of this campaign. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bromby said, "The surgeon told me 12-18 months realistically before I will be back playing.

"It was a big operation and they have done a lot to my knee. If anything happens before then, I will see it as a bonus but it is one of those injuries that you cannot rush.

The news is a blow to Bromby who had worked himself into the plans of manager Neil Warnock, with whom he had worked with previously at Sheffield United.

Bromby had started four of the previous five games for Warnock before suffering the injury rather innocuously at Cardiff, when he suffered the injury playing the ball to Tom Lees with no opposing player close to him.

The defender received oxygen on the pitch before being stretchered away.

Bromby is into the final twelve months of his current contract having signed from Sheffield United in August 2009.
