LUFC White suffers Irish blow

Republic of Ireland and Leeds United player Aidan White`s chances of playing in next summer`s European under 21 championship finals in Israel took a blow with a home defeat to Turkey.

Ireland went into the game knowing a win would move them to within two points of group leaders Italy and above opponents Turkey with two games in hand.

White played the 90 minutes as Ireland went down to a 1-0 defeat in Sligo.

Things looked promising for Ireland when Muhammet Demir was sent off for Turkey with 17 minutes remaining, with the game still goalless.

Ireland`s hearts were broken with just six minutes remaining when Oguzhan Ozyakup scored the only goal of the game.

Ireland are back in action in September when they face two away games in the space of four days. They travel to Hungary on September 6th before travelling to group leaders Italy on the 10th.
