New Leeds United signing David Norris says he has some catching up to do with the rest of the first team squad.
Norris made his Leeds United debut on Wednesday night in Norway when he played eighty minutes of the game with Sandefjord, his first action on the pitch this pre-season.
The 31 year old signed from crisis club Portsmouth last week, with the south coast club desperately trying to offload players to stave of liquidation.
The midfielder found himself training at Fratton Park with the rest of the squad players who remained at Portsmouth from last season, whilst the club travelled to Spain for pre-season with a team of trialists and youth team players.
Norris knows he is behind the rest of the squad but is now looking for some game time before the championship season kicks off on August 18th. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Norris said, "I have had a bit of a broken up pre-season at Portsmouth and when I arrived here the lads were away. I joined up with them properly on Monday and we flew out on Tuesday.
"Most of them have had four or five games and Wednesday was my first game, so I needed it.
"It was difficult at Portsmouth. A few of us did not travel with them to Spain, so we had to everything for ourselves. I tried to keep myself as fit as possible but it is nothing like playing games. I may be a little bit behind but hopefully now I can get some games."
Leeds still have two pre-season friendlies remaining against Preston North End on Saturday and Burton Albion on Tuesday for Norris to improve on his match fitness.
Then in a change this season, Leeds start their season with a Capital One League cup-tie against Shrewsbury Town on August 11th.
Leeds championship campaign follows the following Saturday when Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to Elland Road for the opening game of the season.
Another new signing, Rodolph Austin is still waiting to make his first Leeds appearance. Austin is still finalising the necessary paperwork that will bring him to Elland Road meaning he is likely to make his debut against Burton on Tuesday night.
Austin should not be short of fitness though, as he was halfway through the season with his previous club SK Brann of Norway.
