LUFC Warnock hoping to add to squad this week

LUFC Warnock hoping to add to squad this week

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock is hoping to unveil another new signing before the trip to Preston North End at the weekend.

With the new season just weeks away, Warnock is still looking to add to the eight new signings he has already brought into Elland Road so far this summer and he is hoping they will be in in time for the trip to Deepdale this weekend. Speaking on the official website, Warnock said, "I`m hopeful we will have someone in. We`ve been working on one or two things.

"A lot of players have been mentioned and until we get it on the dotted line I don`t really like talking about anyone."

Neil Warnock is likely to make a decision on trialists Martin Cranie in the near future. The versatile defender has been on trial with Leeds since the start of pre-season and Warnock initially said he would make a decision after the clubs game with Torquay last Friday.

Warnock extended the trial to include the game in Norway and Cranie played the 90 minutes in the centre of defence alongside Jason Pearce.

Leeds continue to be strongly linked with a number of players. Leicester City defender Lee Peltier as well as his teammate, striker Jermaine Beckford continue to be linked with a move to Elland Road.

Brighton and Hove Albion striker Craig Mackail-Smith is another player that is being strongly linked with a move to Leeds.

At one stage, it looked like Mackail-Smith could be part of a swap deal that would see Ross McCormack join the south coast club but after the sale of Robert Snodgrass last week it seems that Warnock is desperate to hold onto last season`s leading goalscorer. Warnock spoke on Yorkshire Radio earlier today and said, "I have had a chat with him and Shaun Harvey will be having a chat with his representatives over the next few days.

We have had a couple of enquiries for him but at the moment, unless we got an offer that was too good to turn down I won`t be selling him.

'Once we lost Rob Snodgrass, I think it is important that we keep Ross.'

Leeds fans that made the trip to Norway on Wednesday got their first chance to see latest signing David Norris. Norris made his first start for the club in the 1-1 draw with Sandefjord after joining from Portsmouth last Friday.

Warnock will also be hoping to include Rodolph Austin at Preston on Saturday.

The Jamaican international who signed last week has now received a work permit and is able to meet up with his new teammates.

Warnock could also be boosted by the return of goalkeeper Paddy Kenny and striker Luciano Becchio after the duo stayed at home to gain full fitness rather than travel to Norway with the rest of the squad.
