Leeds United player Aidy White says all he wanted to do was play for Leeds after finally agreeing a new deal with the club earlier this month.
White looked to be on his way out of Elland Road this summer after turning down the deal offered to him by the club at the end of last season.
The 20 year old was out of contract with the club but returned for pre-season at Thorp Arch with the rest of the squad when they returned on July 11th.
A number of clubs were reportedly interested in the Republic of Ireland under 21 international including Celtic, Middlesbrough and Derby County.
Leeds finally agreed a new three-year deal with White that was signed on the eve of Leeds pre-season tour to Devon and Cornwall and White says he never wanted to leave the club he supports when speaking on Yorkshire Radio following the game with Torquay on Friday night. "It was just a case of getting the terms agreed and cracking on. I did not want to go anywhere else as a Leeds boy and a Leeds fan. This is where I want to play," said the Leeds youngster.
Last season he made his big breakthrough into the Leeds side after being a bit part player since making his debut in 2008.
His form for Leeds also saw him break into the Republic of Ireland under 21 side and he played in all six of their international games during last season.
He also managed his first goal for Ireland in the win over Liechtenstein and he was shortlisted for the Ireland under 21 player of the year.
Despite now having made almost 100 appearances during his career at Leeds and with Oldham during a loan spell in the 2010/11 season, White says he is far from the finished product. "I am still learning and still not the finished product and I still have a lot to improve on in all aspects of the game," added White.
White came through the clubs academy and he made his debut against Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup in August 2008 when just 16 years old.
He made 9 appearances for Leeds in his first season, mainly being used on the left side, in both defence and the wing.
In his second season, he made 15 appearances as Leeds won promotion back to the championship.
In Leeds first season back in the championship, White saw his chances limited and he had made just 3 appearances by November. Leeds took the decision to allow White to go out on loan to Oldham Athletic. After impressing in his initial loan where he scored twice in 5 appearances, his loan spell was extended until the end of the season.
He eventually made 24 appearances for Oldham, scoring four times.
Last season, he became a regular for Leeds and he looked accomplished in the left back position that had been a problem position for Leeds for a number of seasons.
When Neil Warnock arrived he was moved further forward and he found himself generally playing on the right wing before injury eventually brought his season to a premature end at the end of March after suffering an ankle injury in the home game with Watford.
His season finished with him making 39 appearances in total for Leeds.
White has been enjoying a freer role in pre-season, playing on both the left and the right. He has started pre-season in good goalscoring form and he scored in the 6-0 win at Tavistock last Monday, and the 4-0 win at Bodmin last Wednesday.
The 20 year old is still waiting for his first competitive goal for Leeds, something he will look to put right during the 2012/13 season.
