LUFC McCormack double secures Leeds win

Leeds United continued their build up to the new season with a 2-1 win at Torquay United.

Two goals from Ross McCormack early in the game made it a comfortable evening for Leeds as they ended their tour of the south west with another win.

McCormack opened the scoring on seven minutes with a low left foot shot from the edge of the area.

Four minutes later, he doubled the lead when his free kick hit the inside of the post before going in.

Ian Morris dragged wide for the hosts when he got In behind the Leeds defence.

Paul Green should have added a third before half time when he screwed wide from close range.

Torquay had a great opportunity close to half time when Bodin was allowed to waltz through the Leeds defence, but Jamie Ashdown made a smart save low to his left.

The second half was being played at a very sedate pace. Dominic Poleon came on for Leeds with 25 minutes remaining to add some spark to the game.

Torquay got themselves back into the game with just fifteen minutes remaining when substitute MacKenzie scored within ten seconds of entering the field.

The goal did seem to wake Leeds up and Poleon saw a fierce drive from the edge of the area saved by Poke in the Torquay goal.

Leeds held on to make it four wins out of four so far in pre-season.

The impetus will now be stepped up with a trip to Norway to face Sandefjord next Wednesday, who are already well into their season.

Leeds Team:
Ashdown, Lees, Cranie (Byram 46), Pearce, Drury, White (Rogers 79), Green, Brown (Thompson 79), Varney (Pugh 65), Gray, McCormack (Poleon 65).
