Leeds United new signing Luke Varney says he is in the prime of his career and he couldn`t wait to sign for Leeds.
Varney signed for Leeds on a two-year deal from Portsmouth on Monday and he scored on his debut in the 6-0 win at Tavistock the same evening.
The move to Leeds is the 29 year olds seventh club in a career that started at Crewe Alexandra in 2003.
His form at Gresty Road saw him move to Charlton Athletic in a £2 million move in 2007.
He had a season in the Premier League with Blackpool in the 2010/11 season whilst on loan from Derby County, he has also had short stay at Sheffield Wednesday, and he spent last season at Portsmouth.
Varney couldn`t wait to make the move to Leeds once he knew of their interest and he is now looking forward to playing his football at Leeds in the prime of his career. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Varney said, "It took three months and I Was very keen to join. I pushed it as hard as I could without pushing it too much and sounding too desperate.
"It is a very positive move for me and at a time in my career and when I think I am in my prime.
"I am really looking forward to enjoying my football at a great club like Leeds.
"There was a few other clubs showed an interest but as soon as there was interest from Leeds, there was only one club I was going to join."
Varney might well feel at home at Leeds with Jason Pearce, Jamie Ashdown and David Norris all signing from Portsmouth this summer.
