'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC On this day July 28th

A look back at what happened on July 28th in recent history at Leeds United.

2009

Simon Grayson admitted that he will struggle to stand in the way of Fabian Delph moving on if a club came in with the right bid.

Delph had been rumoured with a number of Premiership clubs since emerging on the scene at the start of the previous season, Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp admitted over the weekend that he`s been taking a close look at the England under 21 international.

The 19 year old impressed against Premiership opposition Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and Grayson is not looking forward to the day a Premiership club meet Leeds valuation of his player.

Speaking in the YEP Grayson said 'We're not talking about him going to a League One team - we're talking about top Premier League clubs coming in for him.
The hardest thing for us would be to accept a bid in the first place, but also to deny the player the chance to go to that level.'

With the transfer window closing on the 31st August Grayson was adamant that the club would not sell him for anything less than their valuation, continuing he said 'If none of the interested clubs reach the price we expect, he won't be going anywhere. We don't want to lose our best players on the cheap.'

The clubs showing the most interest in recent weeks were Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton. (He eventually joined Villa in August in a deal worth a reported £8 million

Tickets are selling well for the clubs opening day game against Exeter City with advanced sales already in excess of 20,000.

Leeds United drew their latest pre-season friendly 3-3 at Bradford Park Avenue.

Enoch Showunmi and Tom Elliott gave Leeds a two-goal lead, before Chris Hall pulled a goal back for Avenue on the stroke of half time.

Alan Sheehan made it 3-1 from the penalty spot on the hour for Leeds.

Bett got Avenue back into it and Chris Hall scored his second of the night to secure a draw.
