LUFC Warnock finally gets his man

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock finally landed Luke Varney after admitting he has been trying to sign him for the last seven years.

Varney has agreed a two-year deal at Elland Road and Warnock believes that the fans will like him. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "I have been after Luke for about seven years now on and off. I have spoken to him a number of times at different clubs but have never quite managed to sign him.

"He is an unpredictable type of player and the fans like him and I think there are goals in him.

"I will be setting him a target; I would like to think he can score between 8 and 10 goals next season."

Varney joins Warnock after spending last season at Portsmouth where he netted 6 times in 31 appearances.

The 31 year old started his career at Crewe Alexandra in 2003 where he netted 35 goals in 107 appearances.

He joined Charlton in 2007 in a deal worth £2 million and he spent two seasons in the Premier League with the London club before joining Derby County after a successful loan spell at Pride Park.

Varney struggled during his time at Derby and he had three separate loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday.

He also had a loan spell with Blackpool in the Premier League in 2010/11 where he netted 5 times in 30 appearances before signing for Portsmouth last summer.
