LUFC Warnock pleased to land Ashdown

Leeds United manager Neil Warnock was pleased to bring in his second goalkeeper in a week after Jamie Ashdown agreed a deal at Elland Road.

Ashdown was released by Portsmouth at the end of last season and he has joined up with the squad for their week-long tour of Cornwall and Devon.

The signing of Ashdown was announced prior to the game with Tavistock and Ashdown made his debut as a second half substitute.

Warnock was pleased to land the goalkeeper, who has been attracting interest from a number of clubs.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "I am very pleased to have signed Jamie. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and he knew of my interest.

"He has been training with Middlesbrough and one or two other people have been talking to him. I wanted him to sign and commit and this week he told me he would. You could see tonight that he has a good presence and he will be great for Paddy, so I am pleased."

The 31 year old joins Leeds after eight years at Fratton Park where he made 124 appearances.

Ashdown made 21 appearances for Portsmouth last season for the south coast club.
