LUFC On this day July 22nd - Kisnorbo joins

A look back at what happened on July 22nd in recent history at Leeds United.

Leeds lose their first pre-season friendly of the summer with a 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool United.

Steve Stone scores a consolation goal for Leeds after going two behind.

Robbie Elliott and Mark Fotheringham are both involved having joined the club on trial.

David Livermore makes his first appearance having signed from Millwall the previous day.

Leeds side:
Sullivan, Kelly, Butler (Gregan 60) Foxe, Elliot, Stone, Bakke, Fotheringham (Griffiths 73), Livermore (Richardson 78), Healy, Blake (Beckford 46). Subs (not used): Bennett, Parker

Leeds sign experienced defender Patrick Kisnorbo from Leicester City on a two-year deal.

A number of clubs were chasing Kisnorbo but he decided on a move to Elland Road. Speaking on the official website, Kisnorbo said, 'There were other clubs interested, but I saw more in this club than in the others.'

Leeds are to give a trial to Ivory Coast striker Moussa Sanogo. Sanogo was due to play in the previous night`s friendly at Grimsby Town, but Leeds failed to obtain international clearance in time for the game.

Leeds are dealt a blow with the news that striker Luciano Becchio will miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery on the hamstring injury that forced him to miss the end of last season.

Boss Simon Grayson denies that last season`s player of the year Max Gradel has handed in a transfer request. Speaking about Gradel, Grayson said, 'I don`t know where people get this stuff from. There`s been no written transfer request and no unrest from him." (A month later and he`s gone)
