LUFC Youngsters ease to pre-season win

A youthful Leeds United side won their latest pre-season game at Blue Square Premier League side Alfreton Town on Saturday.

Transfer listed goalkeeper Paul Rachubka was the only experienced player in the line-up, with Charlie Taylor and Zac Thompson the only other players in the side to have first team experience.

Ross Killock, Lewis Turner, Sam Byram, Monty Gimple and Sanchez Payne were all involved in the squad, less than 24 hours after appearing as second half substitutes in the win at Farsley Celtic.

Leeds won the game 2-0 thanks to two second half strikes. Dominic Poleon opened the scoring on the hour and Lewis Turner added a second ten minutes later.

Midfielder Zac Thompson had missed the chance to give Leeds an early second half lead when Alfreton goalkeeper Phil Barnes saved his penalty and then denied the young midfielder for a second time from the follow up.

The youngsters are likely to feature again next Saturday when Leeds take a side to Welsh champions TNS.

Leeds Team
