'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC How do you solve a problem like Snodgrass?

If reports are to be believed then Norwich City have come back in with an improved bid for Leeds United midfielder Robert Snodgrass.

Neil Warnock admitted earlier this week that Leeds had turned down a bid from Norwich for the services of the Leeds club captain. Warnock spoke on the official website when he said, 'It's been made public that they have bid, but from our own point of view it's not what we're looking for.

'We'd like to keep Rob, and Rob knows that. Whether that will be possible we'll have to wait and see. '

It's difficult when players get their heads turned, but I'd like to keep Rob at the club and that's what I'm trying to do at the moment.

Unless they come up with a valuation that the club thinks is satisfactory then that's what we want to do.'

The initial bid is being reported as 1.5 million, which has now been raised in excess of 2 million.

Snodgrass currently has a new contract sitting on the table for him at Elland Road, as he goes into the final year of his current deal. The new contract would make him the highest earner at Elland Road. Would that be enough to keep him or does he desire a move to the Premier League this summer?

The Scottish international midfielder as said all along that he is not willing to sign a new deal at the club until he sees ambition. By the way he speaks about the club, he was made what turned out to be empty promises last summer in regards of the team building and push for promotion to the Premier League.

Since the arrival of Neil Warnock in February, the new Leeds boss as made in obvious how highly he regards Snodgrass. He was quickly made club captain and Warnock was quick to say how he wanted to build the team around Snodgrass this coming season as he looks to guide Leeds to promotion to the Premier League.

Warnock wants Snodgrass to give him one season and if Leeds do not win promotion he has promised him that he will personally find him a move to the Premier League. The problem for both Warnock and Snodgrass is, will Warnock still be here to fulfil his promise? He has already said he has been close to walking this summer due to the frustration in the transfer market. He has even gone as far to say, if Leeds are not looking like promotion candidates when the transfer window opens in January, he would allow him to leave then

Leeds turned down two bids from Norwich last summer, deciding to hang on to one of their prize assets. What Snodgrass saw, was the rest of the potential in the squad being sold and furthering their career with moves to the top flight.

Bradley Johnson left on a free to join Norwich, Max Gradel joined St Etienne in the French top flight and Johnny Howson joined Johnson at Norwich when the January transfer window opened.

Kasper Schmeichel and Neil Kilkenny also left in the summer, after the pair had been regulars in the Leeds side that finished seventh in the championship the previous season.

So far this summer there has been little to get Snodgrass excited. Warnock is struggling in the transfer market, just like all his predecessors and so far, Leeds have managed just four new signings. Two of them (Paddy Kenny and Adam Drury) are journeymen who may have 'been there seen it, done it,` but are not getting any younger. The other two (Jason Pearce and Paul Green) have potential to shine this season but they are probably not the players to get Snodgrass anticipating a push for promotion. To add to this, one of last season`s better players, Adam Clayton has been sold to our West Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield Town and another regular from last season, Andy Lonergan has moved back across the Pennines to join fellow championship side Bolton Wanderers.

It finally brings us to the supposed takeover. We are still waiting! Other clubs are stealing a march on Leeds and signing players whilst Leeds and Warnock are waiting in limbo.

The potential of a Sheikh owner could finally loosen the purse strings at Elland Road. Warnock might be able to bring in the players that both he and Snodgrass would like to see coming to Elland Road.

The 'Due diligence` is still on-going inside Elland Road, so can Leeds hold on to Snodgrass, turn down another bid or do they take the money and run?

The biggest problem is, if we do not see a takeover happen, will we see the money invested in the squad? It is highly unlikely, as with the sales of Fabian Delph, Max Gradel, Kasper Schmeichel and Jonny Howson in recent years, they have generally been replaced by out of contract players, free transfers and loans.

A lot for both Neil Warnock and Robert Snodgrass to think about.
