LUFC Clough - White move to Derby unlikely

Derby County boss Nigel Clough says it is unlikely that they will sign Leeds United defender Aidy White.

White is now out of contract at Elland Road, although he is still training with the club and Leeds boss Neil Warnock still hopeful of keeping the versatile player.

White is reported to have held talks with Derby this week but rams boss Nigel Clough feels he could be out of the clubs budget.

Speaking in the Derby Telegraph, Clough said, 'He is out of contract, so we can talk about him a bit more freely.

'We rate Aidan very highly but the problem we have is getting him within the budget if we want to sign all the players we want.

'We think he is a good player and, in an ideal world, we would like to bring him in but it is probably looking unlikely at the moment.'

Celtic and Middlesbrough are also reported to be interested in signing the 20 year old who has come through the Leeds ranks.

Last season was White`s most productive since making his debut in 2008. White made 39 appearances for Leeds before an ankle injury brought a premature end to his season in March. He also broke into the Republic of Ireland under 21 side.

He played in all six of their games during last season, scoring his first goal in the win over Liechtenstein. His form also saw him nominated for the Republic of Ireland under 21 player of the year. White was on the shortlist of three, eventually losing out to Robbie Brady.
