A look back at what happened on July 20th in the recent history of Leeds United.

2006

Leeds enjoy a 4-1 win at Darlington in a pre-season friendly.

Two goals from Jermaine Beckford, as well as goals from Gylfi Einarsson and trialist Hayden Foxe secure a comfortable win for Leeds.

2007
The club quickly make new plans after the game in Germany against Dynamo Dresden is called off. Leeds will now make the trip to the Czech Republic to face FC Slovan Liberec.

On trial midfielder David Prutton says he would like to sign for Leeds once the club come out of administration. Speaking on the official website at the time, Prutton said, Speaking to the clubs official website Prutton said: When the administration stuff gets sorted hopefully things will be sorted for me and the players like me,'

'This is a team with a lot of potential. We need to work on that - the league will be tough - but the management here is good, the players are good, and we need to move in the right direction.

'There's a huge history and a chance to try and re-build.'


Leeds confirms that the clubs current squad have not been paid for the month of June. The club, who are still in administration and released the following statement, 'It is disappointing that the players have not as yet been paid, however they have not been paid in accordance with the agreements they entered into with the administrators.

The players have been paid for May with funds provided by Leeds United 2007 Ltd under the terms of those deferrals and June's wages are due to be paid when the Football League/Football Association return the shares.'



2009
Leeds have two friendlies planned for July 21st against Grimsby and Wealdstone and boss Simon Grayson names his squads.

2010
Leeds suffer a heavy pre-season defeat at Bury. The League One side beat Leeds 4-0.

Former Leeds goalkeeper Mervyn Day is back at the club as chief scout.

2011
Leeds boss Simon Grayson is to give trialists Ishmael Miller, J. Lloyd Samuel and Alex Mendy another chance in the pre-season friendly with Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

Grayson also admits that he had spoken to former midfielder Lee Bowyer about a return to Elland Road. Speaking about Bowyer on the official website, Grayson said, 'I spoke to Lee Bowyer about coming, but he went to Ipswich for family reasons and geographical reasons because it`s only an hour from London.'
