LUFC Former white training with the club

Former Leeds United striker Andy Gray is training with the club after being released by Barnsley at the end of last season.

Gray started his career at Elland Road having come through the clubs academy and he made his first team debut in January 1996 at just 18.

The striker was reportedly close to signing for another of his former clubs Bradford City, who are managed by Phil Parkinson, who was Gray`s manager at Charlton.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock managed Gray at Sheffield United, where he scored 28 goals in 65 games and Warnock says he is to look at the striker after the players reported back for pre-season training on Wednesday.

Speaking about Gray in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Warnock said, "Andy asked if he could come and train with us and we have allowed him to do that. We will take a look at him and see how it goes."

The striker, now 34 year old was one of the only shining lights in Leeds dismal 3-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa in the 1996 Coca-Cola Cup final.

The son of former Leeds defender Frank and nephew of Leeds legend Eddie departed Leeds in the summer of 1998.

In his 16-year career, he has netted 112 goals in 505 appearances and he has also represented Scotland on two occasions.

Last season, he netted 8 times for Barnsley in 33 appearances.

Never really rated him to be honest and to be released by Barnsley says something don't it and also the fact that he's 34 now just think he'll not really improve us in anyway and will only be a passenger on our quest to the PL....
