'If It's Football, It's Vital'

LUFC On this day July 9th

A look back at what happened on this day in recent history at Leeds United.

2007

Leeds are in Ireland as part of their pre-season. Leeds beat Shelbourne 2-0 thanks to goals from Robbie Blake and trialist David Prutton.

Leeds included a number of trialists and none of the players who played that day remain at Elland Road.

1st Half: Gay, Bayly, Marques, Coughlan, Lewis, Carole, Fry, Howson, Westlake, Blake, Elliott.

2nd Half: Gay, Richardson, Heath, Douglas, Boertien, Mullan, Thompson, Prutton, Delph, Constantine, Kandol.

The new twist in the Leeds United administration saga is starting to become a bit clearer now, courtesy of club administrators KPMG. It was announced just prior to the deadline for creditors to contest the CVA that HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs announced that they intended to challenge the deal in the High Court. The initial case was heard, and subsequently adjourned last Friday until the 3rd September, by which time the club would have had to forfeited up to 4 League One matches including ties against Nottingham Forest and Luton.

With the confusion reigning supreme amongst Leeds United supporters everywhere, the administrators overseeing the takeover, KPMG UK decided that the club would be put up for sale, with a deadline of 5pm, Monday 9th July 2007. 'We are putting the club up for sale and offers must be in by 5pm on Monday and we are interested in talking to other parties,' a spokesman for the administrators said.

This is because of the uncertainty that surrounds the club due to the legal challenge by HM Revenue and Customs.' The decision to put the Leeds up for sale has prompted a number of consortiums that were previously interested, to re-start their attempts to purchase the club.

2008
Assistant Manager Steve Staunton is in trouble with the FA following comments he allegedly made towards FA Doping controllers after the playoff final in May against Doncaster Rovers.

The club have announced that the former Republic of Ireland boss faced a misconduct charge for a breach of rule E3.

It is believed that his choice of words to dope-testers following Leeds` 1-0 defeat at the hands of Doncaster Rovers in May`s League One playoff final, may not have been the best to fire at association officials.

2009
Academy player Luke Garbutt signs for Everton. The 16-year-old turns down a deal offered to him by Leeds in preference of a move to Goodison Park.

After impressing since the arrival of Simon Grayson, Ben Parker signs a new three-year deal with the club.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson says the club have turned down offers for both Fabian Delph and Jermaine Beckford.

Grayson says two Premier League sides have bid for Delph.

Frazer Richardson, who was released by Leeds at the end of last season, signs for fellow League One side Charlton Athletic on a two year deal.

2010
The home game with Millwall on August 21st is moved to a 12.30pm kick off on Police Advice.

Leeds make their sixth signing of the summer with Lloyd Sam signing on a two-year deal from Charlton Athletic.

After the game with SK Lyn Oslo in Norway is cancelled due to the clubs financial problems, Leeds announce a friendly with fellow Norwegian side SK Brann, with the game taking place on July 27th.

Those were dark days back in 2007. Hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel now.
