LUFC Somma not ready for start of the season

Leeds United striker Davide Somma is not expected to be back before the start of the season.

Somma hasn`t played since suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in pre-season training last summer.

The South African international returned to training at the turn of the year but suffered a reoccurrence of the injury that has ruled him out ever since.

Speaking on the official website, Leeds boss Neil Warnock said, "I cannot see Davide being available until September or October. I can`t see him starting anything until the end of August."

Somma broke into the Leeds side at the start of the 2010/11 season after a successful loan spell with Lincoln City the previous season, where he scored 9 goals in 14 appearances.

The striker scored twice on his championship debut as a second half substitute against Millwall and he went on to score 12 goals in 32 appearances during the season.

His form also saw him break into the South African national side and he scored his first international goal in his second start against Kenya.

Elsewhere, long-term injured Patrick Kisnorbo and Robbie Rogers are expected to return during pre-season.

Kisnorbo hasn`t played since suffering a knee injury in the home win over Burnley at the start of the year.

Rogers has had a stop start beginning to his Leeds career. He suffered concussion within ten minutes of his debut against Doncaster Rovers in February, which saw him carried from the field.

He returned in April as a substitute against Reading and he made his first start for the club against Peterborough a week later.

After an impressive start, he suffered an ankle injury inside ten minutes that ruled him out for the final three games of the season.

Rogers has been working with LA Galaxy on his rehabilitation during the summer and he returned to Thorp Arch this week ahead of the first team returning to training next week.

Warnock is not expecting Kisnorbo and Rogers to be ready for the start of pre-season but they will be working hard to join the rest of the squad ahead of the new season, starting on August 11th with the Capital One Cup tie with Shrewsbury Town.

I was really hoping he would be back for pre-season.
