LUFC Radebe to take first management role with SA

Reports in South Africa say that former Leeds United defender Lucas Radebe is to be appointed as South Africa`s new team manager.

Radebe will assist newly appointed first team coach Gordon Igesund.

It will be Radebe`s first move into coaching following his retirement from playing.

The Leeds hero finished his playing career in 2005 at Elland Road having spent 11 years at the club and making over 200 appearances.

The player, who was affectionately known as the chief during his time with Leeds, played a major part in South Africa`s hosting of the 2010 World Cup, acting as an ambassador for the nation he played for over 70 times.

The new regime was brought in after South Africa parted company with previous coach Pitso Mosimane from his position after the nation had failed to win in eight months.

The nation have slipped to 67th in the World rankings following a disastrous run of results since Mosimane took over following the World Cup in 2010.

South Africa will host next year`s African cup of nations after failing to qualify for the last two final tournaments.

South Africa are currently third in their 2014 World Cup qualifier group having drawn their first two games.

Good luck to Lucas. A real shame he was never offered anything with Leeds. We could have really done with him teaching the defence a thing or two in recent seasons.

Dazza71 , Luca was and will be one of a kind; he refused of scum offer in the mean time and was like a stature of defence line in the mean time. Tare

Once bumped into him at Asda when he was playing for Leeds, a decent chap & down to earth. Good luck to him.
