LUFC Derby and Doncaster view on Paul Green

Derby County supporter Matt Ward gives us his view on Leeds latest signing Paul Green.

We have also had a view from 1879Rovers from the Vital Doncaster Rovers site. Green played for Doncaster for six years before signing for Derby in 2008.

Green has signed for Leeds on a two-year deal after coming to the end of his current contract at Derby.

Matt`s view

What is his best position?
He has played a number of positions for Derby since joining in 2008. His best position is in the centre of midfield and he will get involved in all the nitty-gritty side of the game. He likes to do the things some players do not like too. Last season he also made a number of appearances at right back and also on the right side of midfield.

At 29 does he have much pace?
I wouldn`t say he was fast but he does get up and down the pitch.

What is his injury record like?
He has had a few injuries in his time at Pride Park. He suffered a foot injury that ruled him out for two months in his second season. The following season, he was once again an almost ever present and a regular for Republic of Ireland before suffering a serious knee injury that ruled him out for six months.

I actually think if he had not been injured then another club would have been in for him last summer. A few Premier League clubs were sniffing around before he suffered the knee injury.

He returned just before Christmas last season and he was a regular until the end of the season, so I do not think there is a problem with injuries.

What are his main strengths and weaknesses?
He always gives 100% and he will be popular amongst fans with his commitment and desire. As I have said before, he has got a good engine, puts himself about and he helps out the defence as well as the attack.

Are you disappointed to see him leave?
Yes, but it has been clear since before the end of last season that he was leaving Derby in the summer. I will keep an eye on him and I hope he does well for Leeds, except for when the play Derby of course.

1879Rovers

Green spent six years at Doncaster and he helped us rise from non-league football to promotion to the championship in six years.

He broke into our side as a teenager and he played a huge part in our promotion from the conference. For me, he was man of the match in our play-off final win over Dagenham and Redbridge and he opened the scoring.

He was a major player in our rise up the leagues and a great run in the Carling Cup in 2005 when we reached the quarter finals.

The year we won promotion to the championship, Rovers form changed dramatically when Green became a regular in the starting eleven just before Christmas.

He always had an eye for goal and he chipped in with quite a few during his time with Rovers. He is always up for the fight in the centre of the pitch, he is willing to put his foot in, and he works very hard for the side.

Knowing what Leeds fans like in their players, I can see him becoming a huge fans favourite.

I hope he personally does very well during his time at Leeds.

Thanks to both of you for your views on Green.

Looks like a good signing for Leeds Utd so long as you can keep him injury free.
