LUFC Warnock wants League cup tie on the Saturday

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock is hoping to play the Capital One League Cup first round tie with Shrewsbury Town at Elland Road on the weekend before the season starts.

Leeds were initially due to play a home pre-season friendly on Friday August 10th against an unnamed Premier League side but following the Football Leagues decision to allow clubs to play the League cup ties on the weekend if requested, Warnock is hoping now to play Shrewsbury in the League cup instead.

Speaking on the official website, Warnock said, "You always want a cup draw at home. It`s our first game of the season and it`s at Elland Road, which is great.

"I`m actually hoping we can play the game on the weekend before.

"Usually in these games, you maybe give opportunities to a few players because they fall between your first league games, but we want to get through in the competition, so it`s an opportunity for us."

Leeds have so far arranged six games for pre-season ahead of the new season for the first team, all away from home, They start with the three game tour of Cornwall and Devon where they will play Tavistock, Bodmin and Torquay.

They then travel out to Norway for a game with Sandejford for the second summer in a row.

Leeds then return to England for trips to Preston and Burton before the start of the new season, which kicks off with the League Cup clash with Shrewsbury.

Leeds kick off their championship campaign over the weekend of August 18th and the fixtures for the new season will be announced on Monday at 9am.

It would make more sense. You would get more in the ground on the Saturday.
