LUFC Leeds United transfer rumours - Week 4

Vital Leeds United is keeping fans up to date with all the latest transfer rumours over the summer with Neil Warnock looking to build a squad capable of mounting a promotion challenge next season.

This was the week that Neil Warnock was going to bring in two or three players before he went away for his summer holiday. In reality, we have once again been left disappointed.

The Joel Ward saga continues to roll on with the Portsmouth defender still on the market having yet to decide his future, although it is strongly rumoured that he is to join Crystal Palace in the next few days.

The stumbling point for Leeds seems to be the estimated £400,000 fee up front Portsmouth are requiring. If this is true, where does it leave Leeds this summer? Are we looking at another summer of mediocre signings, who in twelve months will all be deemed not good enough? No wonder Robert Snodgrass is holding back on signing a new deal with Leeds. He has been around the place long enough now to know Bates is not a man to trust with empty promises of strengthening the squad sufficiently to mount a promotion push.

I think the fact this week, there has been more reports about players leaving Elland Road than those signing, tells its own story.

It has taken a month, but after the comments made by Robert Snodgrass in midweek the clubs rumoured to be interested in the Scottish international are mounting.

Norwich City look like they might be about to renew their interest having had a bid turned down for Snodgrass last summer. Also showing an interest according to reports are, Wigan Athletic, West Brom and Newcastle.

Last season`s leading goalscorer, Ross McCormack is reported to have turned down the new contract offered to him by Leeds and he is also being linked with Premier League clubs. Newly promoted West Ham and Wigan are leading the race to sign McCormack.

Out of contract Aidy White is reportedly interesting Glasgow Celtic and the Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal have also joined the race to sign White, having first been linked with him in January.

Transfer listed Billy Paynter is being linked with Portsmouth and Luciano Becchio is being linked with a move to Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednesday.

It seems the media have also almost given up on Leeds signing any players.

Just Derby County striker Steve Davies has been linked with a move to Elland Road this week, something manager Neil Warnock quickly denied.

It has been revealed this week, that Leeds did make a move recently to sign former defender Ian Harte from Reading, with the former Republic of Ireland international turning down the opportunity and signing a new one-year deal with the new Premier League club.

Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders has stated this week that they have had no contact from Leeds regarding the availability of George Friend and Tommy Spurr who were both linked with a move to Elland Road earlier in the close season.

If you read of any player links in or out of Elland Road then let us know on Vital Leeds.

Doesn't seem to be much to be positive about in the transfer market 71... I wouldnt read too much into that though... Nothing much happens at this time of year until the players get back off their holidays... Im sure Mr Warnock knows what he's doing...
