LUFC Warnock - I had to offer Snodgrass a top deal

Leeds United manager Neil Warnock says he had to offer Robert Snodgrass a top rate deal after seeing some of his teammates leave for top-flight football.

Snodgrass has been the Leeds captain since Neil Warnock took charge in February and the Leeds boss is hoping to build his side around Snodgrass next season.

The Scottish international has one year remaining on his current Leeds contract and Warnock disclosed recently that he had offered him a deal to make him the highest paid player at Elland Road.

Warnock feels it was a deal he had to offer Snodgrass if he is to have any chance of holding onto him this summer.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "I think he is a special player at Leeds at the moment and he has been here a long time and seen a lot of his team mates depart. I felt straight away that we would have to offer him a top rate deal."

The Leeds boss recently said that he would ensure that Snodgrass would be in the Premier League by the end of next season either with Leeds or with another club and he wants the player to commit himself to Leeds for twelve months. "I have asked him to commit himself to Leeds for twelve months, that is all I have asked him to do and I am still optimistic,"added Warnock.

Snodgrass has already said that he is not going to rush into a decision on his Leeds future and that he is more likely to see who Warnock brings in over the summer.

A leeds top deal still doesn't live with the offers he is likely to get in the Premier League. I hope a one year offer that he can leave for the Premier League if we don't go up will be enough. You cannot blame any player though who wants to go straight into the top flight when the opportunity arises.

Having that mass clearout will mean the club's got much more money to play with regarding transfer fees and wages. We can raise our wage offer but it all depends who Neil Warnock brings in and who he will be playing alongside next season which will determine whether Robert leaves or stays.

But the planks have got to leave to free the money up Roth
