LUFC Clayton surprised and disappointed

Adam Clayton`s representative Chris Lomas says the Leeds United midfielder is surprised and disappointed to have been placed on the transfer list.

Clayton was the surprise name to many when Leeds boss Neil Warnock announced his retained, released and those he has placed on the transfer list on Wednesday.

The 23 year old had been in negotiations with Leeds about a new and improved offer with the midfielder who is out of contract in the summer of 2013.

Warnock decided to place Clayton on the transfer list after he felt the players representatives were asking for more money than Leeds were willing to pay.

Lomas says the decision by Leeds as left the player surprised and disappointed.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Lomas said, "It`s come as a big surprise to him.

"He feels really privileged to have played for a club like Leeds and he senses that big things will be happening there next season. He`d have loved to be part of that.

"The disappointment for him is that he felt he would have improved as a player under Neil. Neil`s a top manager and a good guy who knows what he wants. There`s no animosity at all."

Despite the decision to place Clayton on the transfer list, it does not mean he will automatically go, with Leeds not prepared to let him leave for under what they feel is an appropriate fee for the player.

Lomas says following the news, he has already had a number of enquiries for the former Manchester City youngster. "Adam doesn`t hold grudges. He`s just genuinely sad and disappointed at the way it`s worked out. But he`ll be fine. The phone hasn`t stopped since the news came out,"added Lomas.

Clayton missed just four games in the whole of the 2011/12 season, making 46 appearances for the club.

He also chipped in with six goals during the season, with his goal at Leicester City in November winning the clubs goal of the season.
