LUFC Seven youngsters offered new deals

On a very busy day for Neil Warnock at Elland Road the Leeds boss has rewarded seven of the academy players professional contracts with the club.

Twins Nathan and Lewis Turner had already been on pro contracts for the past twelve months and they have been rewarded with a twelve-month extension with the option of a further year.

Neither made the breakthrough into the first team last season. Lewis was named as an unused substitute in the win at Doncaster Rovers in the Carling Cup in August.

Both were regulars in the under 18 side which finished second in The FA Premier Academy League Group D this season, making 27 appearances each.

Sam Byram, Ross Killock, Simon Lenighan, Charlie Clamp and Dominic Poleon have all been offered their first professional contracts with the club.

Defender Byram made 25 appearances in the same side whilst fellow defender Killock made 21 appearances.

Midfielders Lenighan and Clamp both made 29 appearances. Lenighan chipped in with four goals whilst Clamp netted five times.

Striker Poleon was the squads leading goalscorer this season with twelve goals in 28 appearances.

One of the good things today is to read the news that a lot of the youngsters are coming through. Usually it is just one or two. The academy seems to be going in the right direction in the past eighteen months since the changes.
