LUFC Beckford amazed by Elland Road reception

Former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford said it was brilliant to be back at Elland Road on Saturday and he was amazed by the reception he received from the Leeds fans.

Beckford, who left in the summer of 2010 returned with Leicester City and played the first 45 minutes of the game that was won 2-1 by Leicester.

The striker netted 85 goals for Leeds in three seasons, including the famous goals against Manchester United at Old Trafford and the winner against Bristol Rovers that sent Leeds up from League One on the final day of the 2009/10 season.

Beckford was cheered from all four sides of Elland Road prior to kick off and during the first half and he was amazed by the support.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Beckford said, "The reception was amazing and it was brilliant to be back here.

"I didn`t expect the reception to be as amazing as it was but I`m always surprised by the Leeds fans. It made me feel humble and it meant a lot to me."

Beckford acknowledged the crowd prior to kick off when he applauded the Leeds crowd and he endeared himself even more during his 45 minutes on the pitch by giving the Kop end of the ground the Leeds salute in Leicester`s first attack.

There was also a moment when Beckford and Leeds defender Alex Bruce pretended to exchange shirts.

The 28 year old was reportedly offered to Leeds twice last season according to chairman Ken Bates, with the outspoken chairman saying 'the club had moved on.`
