LUFC Warnock outlines summer transfer targets

LUFC Warnock outlines summer transfer targets

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock has outlined the type of players he is looking to bring into Elland Road over the summer as he looks to build a side capable of winning promotion next season.

Warnock has already said there will be 'major surgery` to the squad during the summer and he will be announcing his retained list next Wednesday.

The Leeds boss will then be looking to build his side for next season and he says he is concentrating on the defence and the spine of the side.

Warnock was a guest on Yorkshire Radio on Friday evening for one hour and speaking on the show, he said, "I don`t want loan players if I can help it and I am working on getting the right type of player and I want to start with the defence.

"I would like to sort the defence out and we will be strong home and away defensively. That will then allow the midfielders and strikers a little bit more time.

"I am looking at the spine of the side. It is where all good sides are made and you do not deviate much from the group of players that you have in the spine of the team. I think if we can do that then the other players in the side will blossom."

Warnock also outlined that he will be looking for some pace in the side, stating that there is not enough pace amongst the current crop of players in the squad. He will also be looking to find the correct pieces of the jigsaw to finalise his squad."I don`t think there is enough pace in any areas of the side and I am looking to bring that type of player into the side.

"I don`t want a defender who can be a good ball player; I want a defender who can do what he is good at. I want midfield players who can not only dink a ball over and work box to box and then put a ball into the box where the strikers can revel in it. It is all about getting the pieces of the jigsaw in the right areas,"
added Warnock.

Warnock has already said this week that he has been busy this week working on bringing players into the club and he wants to have in squad in place before the season starts on August 18th.

The Leeds boss is wanting the squad in place so that they can hit the ground running when the season starts, Warnock continued, "It does take time, but I don`t want to take my time, I want to do it all in pre-season and get off to a good start."

The 63 year old is looking to win his eighth promotion in football management and be the outright leader for promotions gained by a manager in the Football League.

Warnock currently holds the record with Graham Taylor and Dave Bassett and he has set himself one season to achieve the feat.
