LUFC Leeds v Leicester Over the years

Vital Leeds looks at the head-to-head record between Leeds United and Leicester City at Elland Road over the years.

Leeds United have met no club more times than Leicester City in their history. They have met on 117 occasions in total with 57 at Elland Road.

Leeds have won 31 of these games with 13 wins to Leicester and 13 draws.

They met on two occasions at Elland Road last season in the space of two months. Leicester won both games 2-1 in the Carling Cup and the Championship.

Leicester are unbeaten on their last four visits to Elland Road and Leeds have to go back to the 2005/06 season for their last win when they won 2-1.

The visitors have won on six of their last twelve visits going back to the 1997/98 season.

Expect plenty of goals, the last time there was a 0-0 at Elland Road between them was in 1922, it`s the only time there has ever been a goal less draw at Leeds in 57 meetings.

The 57 games have averaged 3.31 goals per game and only once in the last ten games have both sides failed to score.

Leeds have enjoyed some bi victories over Leicester at Elland Road. They beat them 8-0 in 1933/34, 8-2 in 1938/39 and 7-1 in 1953/54.

For fans over the age of 30 then the most memorable game between the two came in Leeds last home game of the 1989/90 season.

Leeds went into the game top of the Second Division, level on points with Sheffield United.

Mel Sterland gave Leeds an early lead but a young Gary McAllister for Leicester cancelled this out in the second half. With the clock ticking down and the game inside the final ten minutes, the ball eventually fell to inspirational captain Gordon Strachan on the edge of the area and his left foot strike gave Martin Hodge in the Leicester goal no chance to secure a crucial winning goal for Leeds. The game was featured on Yorkshire TV the following day and when the ball went in, commentator John Helm said, 'Have you ever seen a better goal? And have you ever seen one better timed?` as Strachan raced off towards the supporters in the South Stand.
