LUFC Warnock - It could have been eight or nine

LUFC Warnock - It could have been eight or nine

Neil Warnock was pleased to finally see his Leeds United side win their first home game since taking over and felt they could have scored a lot more than the four they did.

Leeds had lost four and drawn one of his five games at Elland Road since taking over in February.

Warnock was happy to finally earn his first three points on home soil and said they have to build over the summer for consistency next season.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Warnock said, "I am pleased with the win. They gave me everything and we have been close on a few occasions and played poorly on a few occasions, so I really do not know what I am going to get at the moment.

"That is the championship for you. You have to know week in, week out what you are going to get and that is what I am going to try to build over the next few months."

Leeds had come into the game on the back of three straight defeats and after starting well it looked like being another one of those afternoons when Peterborough went ahead after the usual poor defending.

Youngster Charlie Taylor failed to clear the ball and Peterborough midfielder Joe Newell was allowed to walk through far too easily to put the visitors ahead.

Leeds were thrown a lifeline on the stroke of half time after a huge mistake by Peterborough goalkeeper Paul Jones who dropped the ball at the feet of Billy Paynter who had the easy task of sending the sides in at half time on level terms. Warnock admitted the goal changed the complexion of the game as Leeds took the game to Peterborough in the second half. "I thought we had a bit of luck with the goal just before half time after some calamites` defending by Peterborough, which let us in. At half time, I was hoping to go in just one down and not two, so to get the goal was a massive plus.

"In the second half we were on the front foot and we made them make mistakes. We could have had a lot of goals and we could have had eight or nine quite easily,"
added Warnock.

The game was as good as over in the opening minutes of the second half with Ross McCormack scoring twice in the space of two minutes.

Paynter scored his second of the afternoon with seventeen minutes remaining as Leeds equalled their best home win of the season.

Warnock now has to plan for a midweek trip to Blackpool but he was intent on enjoying the win on Saturday night after waiting a long time for his first home win. "I am going to enjoy tonight, have a drink and enjoy the moment," continued the Leeds boss.

As well as a trip to Blackpool on Tuesday, they face a trip to Cardiff City on Saturday and Leeds could still have a big say on those clubs chasing a play-off place between now and the end of the season.
