LUFC Bates - They only turned up for their wages

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates believes the players against Watford only turned up to collect their wages.

Leeds lost 2-0 to theoretically ended their hopes of reaching the play offs this season and Bates was critical of the side that have played so well recently in games.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "Was this the same team that murdered Southampton, deserved a victory against West Ham and comprehensively beat Middlesbrough?

"I cannot believe it and it is totally unacceptable. You wonder what their problems are.

"They are so inconsistent. Worryingly for some of the players, they do not have much time left to impress Neil so they are part of his squad next season.

"Some of the players against Watford just didn`t turn up, only to collect their wages and that isn`t good enough. It is not good enough at any club and it certainly isn`t good enough for Leeds."

Leeds have now won just one of their last seven home games and have been defeated nine times at Elland Road in the championship this season.

Leeds have the worst defensive record at home in the championship this season having conceded 36 goals and only Nottingham Forest and Bristol City have lost more games.
