LUFC Bates - Warnock is no fanny merchant

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says his relationship with Leeds boss Neil Warnock is a good one.

Bates when talking to Yorkshire Radio was asked how the two of them were getting on after many predicting a volatile relationship between the two with both men often outspoken.

The Leeds chairman says Warnock is a very intelligent man who gives it to you straight but is also prepared to listen and he described Warnock as 'no fanny merchant.'

Speaking in his weekly slot on YR, Bates said, "I have known Neil for a long time. Once again, people do not know Neil Warnock, they just read about him or see him on TV.

"He is a down to earth guy and he is not a 'fanny` merchant. He gives it to you straight and at the same time, he listens to you when you explain things and he understands what you are talking about.

"He is an intelligent man who has made a lot of money during his career and he has invested wisely, so he has got a wider view than just eleven men on a football pitch.

"He can see the implications and planning that goes into running a football club and he is good at it.

"We made a good signing and he wanted the job and that is an important thing."

Warnock`s influence on the pitch is already looking to be making its mark with the side transformed from the one that looked so laboured over the winter period.

The 2-0 win at Middlesbrough on Sunday was probably one of the most complete performances of the season, with half the squad probably having their best game of the season.

Paul Connolly, Tom Lees, Darren O`Dea and Michael Brown especially, have looked rejuvenated since the arrival of Warnock.
