LUFC Warnock - Some players let Grayson down

Leeds United boss Neil Warnock says some of his squad let previous manager Simon Grayson down after seeing the effort put in for him against Southampton on Saturday night.

In both Warnock`s and Southampton boss Nigel Adkins words, Leeds battered the league leaders on Saturday night and couldn`t find a way past saints keeper Kelvin Davis who produced a stunning performance to continuously thwart the Leeds attack.

Warnock believes that some of the squad need to take a look at themselves and whilst he feels they let Grayson down they must now prove themselves to him if they want to stay with Leeds.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Warnock said, "Our players should be, not ashamed, but they should look at themselves and think, having played like that against Southampton who are top of the league, why are we mellowing in mid-table?

"One or two players have been disappointing and I feel a little bit sorry for Simon in that respect.

"They`ve now got an opportunity to show me if they want to stay at the club. It`s a fantastic club and they`ve got it all to show me.

"The way I manage, I expect 100 per cent in every game come what may.

"Seeing the performance against Southampton, the players know what they can do now and I think they`ve surprised themselves."

Warnock has given the squad a fresh start since his arrival with a number of players coming into the squad from the wilderness.

Leigh Bromby made his first start on Saturday since October. Paul Connolly made his first start in over two months and Billy Paynter has been on the bench in Warnock`s two games in charge, having not played since the opening day.
