LUFC Leeds in no rush to offer Snodgrass new deal

New Leeds United boss Neil Warnock says the club will sit down with Robert Snodgrass and talk about a new contract nearer the time.

The new Leeds skipper is out of contract in the summer of 2013 and he has been linked with a move to a number of clubs since the summer with new Premier League side Norwich City having a bid rejected.

Warnock believes the club are in a good position to carry on negotiations with the Scottish international midfielder but nothing is expected to happen in the near future.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Warnock said, "You always want to keep your best players.

"But that`s something to talk about nearer the time.

"There`ve been no negotiations for four to five months and that was agreed in the summer. He still has 18 months on his contract so we`re in a good position."

Gary McAllister beat of a number of clubs for the signature of Snodgrass in the summer of 2008 and he has been a regular in the side since his arrival.

Snodgrass has made almost 180 appearances since his arrival, netting 39 times and he has made more appearances for the club than anyone else currently in the squad.

The 25 year old was named the new club captain following the arrival of Warnock and he capped a fine week by winning his fifth cap for Scotland in midweek.

Leeds fans will be concerned with the lack of negotiations having seen Jermaine Beckford, Neil Kilkenny and Bradley Johnson leave for free in the past two seasons whilst two of the clubs main players Max Gradel and Jonny Howson have been sold.
