LUFC Bates - Warnock looking to bolster squad
Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says new manager Neil Warnock is still looking to bolster the defence but he is finding it hard to get players to commit themselves to a loan at this stage of the season.
Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "Neil is looking to enhance the defensive side of the team to increase our chances of getting into the play-offs.
"He is going about things the right way and the players are responding so we are very hopeful and optimistic.
"The problem is you are looking for a player who will make a switch for just a few months and it is at a time when they are still hoping to prove a point to their existing manager that they are worthy of a new contract or an extended one.
"There aren`t many players about and Neil won`t bring in players for the sake of bringing them in, he just won`t do that. Anyone he does bring in he will feel that they will make a significant contribution to the rest of the season."
Since Warnock has arrived at Elland Road, he has made no secret of his desire to strengthen a defence that despite keeping a clean sheet at Portsmouth on Saturday in his first game in charge have still conceded 48 goals this season.
Leeds have been linked with Leicester City centre back Matt Mills since the weekend with the play reportedly mulling over a move to Elland Road.
Centre back Clint Hill and right back Peter Ramage who played for Warnock at Queens Park Rangers have also been linked, as well as left back Paul Robinson from Bolton Wanderers.
Warnock made his first signing for the club on Tuesday when he signed free agent Danny Webber who has been without a club since being released by Portsmouth at the end of last season.
