LUFC Bates - Warnock's installed a new spirit

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says Neil Warnock is a breath of fresh air at the club with a new found spirit inside the dressing room.

Warnock took charge of his first Leeds game in the 0-0 draw at Portsmouth on Saturday and it was clear to see the improvement in defence and the centre of midfield with Adam Clayton and Michael Brown putting themselves about.

Bates was also impressed with a remark made by one of the players speaking to Chief Executive Shaun Harvey after the game at Portsmouth.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Bates said, "He has been a breath of fresh air and all the reports I am getting back are there is a new spirit around the place and it is buzzing.

"It was a very good point at Portsmouth and what was significant is, Shaun Harvey met one of the first team players in the car park and asked him how he felt and his response was, 'we would have lost that game a month ago` and I thought that was a very significant remark and long may it continue."

The clean sheet at Portsmouth was only Leeds seventh of the season and it has once again proved to be the sides Achilles heel this season.

Warnock is hoping to add to the squad defensively and is reported to be after centre back Matt Mills, with reports suggesting the two clubs have agreed a deal to bring Mills to Elland Road for the remainder of the season.

The more you read and hear the more clearer it is that there really was something seriously wrong behind the scenes between Grayson and the players.
