LUFC Snoddy wants to lead Leeds to Premier League

LUFC Snoddy wants to lead Leeds to Premier League

New Leeds United captain says he has one last thing to tick off on his things to do after being handed the armband by new Leeds boss Neil Warnock until the end of the season.

The 24 year old says the only ambition he has now to achieve at Elland Road is to help the club back into the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Snodgrass said, "I`ve been down here four years and this was one of the things to tick off in terms of things to achieve.

"The last one is promotion and getting into the Premier League."

Snodgrass was happy to be chosen as the new skipper for Neil Warnock after previous manager Simon Grayson turned down his request to captain the side on a regular basis after the long-term injury to former captain Jonny Howson in December, who has now left the club. "I did fancy the job (when Howson left) and I spoke to Simon Grayson at the time. He felt my form was going really well and he didn`t want to affect that.

"That was his way of thinking but I didn`t agree and I told him so. The previous manager asked your opinion and I told him. But this manager is different.

"He tells you how it is because he`s got a proven track record. The lads have taken to him straight away,"
continued Snodgrass.

Snodgrass first arrived at Elland Road from Scottish First Division side Livingston in the summer of 2008 after choosing Leeds ahead of a number of clubs who were chasing his signature at the time.

Since his arrival, he has been a regular in the side under managers Gary McAllister and then Simon Grayson.

Snodgrass is now closing in on 200 appearances for the club since his arrival and he has netted 39 goals, with the current campaign being his most successful with 11 so far.

He has also won his first caps for his native Scotland since arriving at Elland Road.

Snodgrass has now won four caps since making his debut against Northern Ireland last February and he netted his first goal against Denmark in August.

He will be hoping to win his fifth cap this Wednesday when he travels with the national squad to Slovenia for an international friendly.

Snodgrass will be hoping to join an illustrious list of Scottish Leeds captains, following the likes of Billy Bremner, Gordon Strachan and Gary McAllister.
