LUFC Portsmouth v Leeds Head To Head

Vital Leeds looks at the head-to-head record between Portsmouth and Leeds United at Fratton Park through the years.

The two sides have met on 29 occasions at Portsmouth with the home side winning 13, Leeds 6 and 10 draws.

The first ever meeting between the two at Portsmouth came in a FA Cup clash during the 1922/23 season when they game finished 0-0.

It was six seasons later before they met again in their first league encounter when Leeds won 2-0 thanks to goals from Tom Mitchell and Russell Wainscoat.

Portsmouth had to wait until the fourth game between the sides at Fratton Park before they scored their first goal in a 1-1 draw.

The home side finally got their first win in the fixture at the sixth time of asking when they won 2-1 during the 1933/34 season.

Portsmouth are unbeaten in the last four games with Leeds, winning three and drawing one.

Leeds last win came during the 1998/99 season when they knocked Portsmouth out of the FA Cup 5-1 after going behind early on.

Three of the last five meetings have been in cup competitions.

When the sides met last season, the game finished 2-2 in a match that was halted twice due to floodlight failures.

Portsmouth went ahead in the first half through Joel Ward before Luciano Becchio equalised for Leeds in the opening minutes of the second half.

John Utaka restored the home side`s advantage before Davide Somma equalised for Leeds for a second time with his first touch after coming off the substitute`s bench.

There has not been a shortage of goals with 101goals being scored in the 29 games on the South coast.
